A Profile of Aligned Distributor
After being appointed in 2018 as Armenia’s Honorary Consul to Chicago and
its surrounding states, Oscar Tatosian began to eagerly develop and increase
trade between Armenia and the United States.
Of particular importance were the categories of brandy and wine – both of which
are symbolically linked to Armenian history. With the discovery there of the
world’s oldest winery and earliest vines, a pedigree was established.
Oscar and his brother, Sarkis Tatosian, were inspired to develop
Aligned Distributors in order to introduce and share Armenia’s high quality
wines, brandy, and champagne with restaurants, boutique liquor stores,
and private clubs – particularly aimed at those with discriminating tastes.
The World's First Wine
The world’s first wine was produced in Armenia over 6,000 years ago when winemaking played an important role in the Urartu civilization that developed in Armenia during the Bronze and Iron Age.
Assyrian records also show extensive planting of vines during this period –
confirmed by the subsequent discovery of many wild wine varieties from the period.
Unique Flavors
Armenian wine is made from indigenous grape varieties that are unique to the
region, such as Areni and Voskehat. Armenian brandy is world-renowned and
has won numerous awards, including the Grand Prix at the 1900 Paris World
Exhibition. Armenia’s high altitude, volcanic soil, and dry climate create ideal
growing conditions for grapes and contribute to the unique flavors of Armenian wine.

Many wineries in Armenia offer tours and tastings, allowing visitors to sample some of the country’s finest wines and spirits. In fact, Armenian wines and spirits are becoming increasingly popular on the international market as evidenced by substantial exports to countries such as the United States, Russia, and China. With their unique flavors and rich history, Armenian wines and spirits are an excellent addition to any collection.
